Most Squeaks Are Caused By Loose Floor Boards Moving Up And Down On A Nail
That's why carpenters today glue the subfloor to the joist and screw it down tight.
So what can you do if the glue got missed or there was no glue in the first place.
If you can screw it down from the top that would be one way, but many times that would damage a finished floor.
The next trick is to work from under neath.
You can glue the subfloor to the joists by running a fillet of glue along the top edges of the joist.

There is one more step, and that is to try to push the glue into any gaps and make a nice rounded fillet in the process.

Take note – it is wise to use rubber gloves because that subfloor glue will get all over your hands.
Also note that plastic spoon makes a great tool for spreading the glue.
