It's A Simple Trick You Need To Know
This is an old school trick for taming tear out.
When you lay your joints out using a marking gauge, the scriber on the gauge actually scores a line in the wood cutting the wood fibers.
And that cut in the fibers is enough to stop the wood from tearing
You can get the same result by marking your cut lines with a marking knife or a scriber. Even a utility knife works.
