This is a technique all craftsmen use from time to time.
I've spent countless hours rounding over edges with my block plane.
For a small round over this can save time compared to just using sand paper, such as on the edges of doors.
For round overs in the 1/8″ to 3/8″ range a block plane can be used, but I soon discovered that a round over bit in my laminate trimmer router saves a lot of time.
That aside this is an good skill to learn for doing those rounded edges where the radius isn't constant or for bull-nose edges where you don't have a router bit for the task.
